Type of Work: Identity Design and Applications
Fall 2015
The students of St. Adalbert Catholic School in South Bend, Indiana are some of the most spirited children you could ever meet. One student-focused initiative born out of this enthusiasm is the St. Adalbert Catholic School house system. Students in grades 4–8 are sorted into one of four houses—each named after a holy person from the Congregation of the Holy Cross—to compete in spirit and achievement-based competitions in an attempt to win the House Cup.
I worked with the children of St. Adalbert to expand the visual presence of their house system. House names, colors, and typefaces were chosen by students, while I focused on giving the system a unified visual presence. I designed crests and drew stylistic depictions of each house patron as design elements that could be reused in many applications. These design elements were first implemented on house banners and tshirts that I designed, but students can use and reuse them for years to come.
